ASTM A563 & A194 Coupling Nuts

Coupling Nuts are designed to attach two pieces of threaded rod together, and provide a limited amount of length adjustment between the conjoined pieces. Most coupling nuts are made from carbon steel in either a finish or heavy hex pattern and can be special ordered to specific lengths or dimensions to meet you project requirements.

Brazos Fasteners carries an extensive variety of coupling nuts to meet the needs of almost any industry. Whether you are looking for ASTM A194 coupling nuts, ASTM A563 coupling nuts, galvanized coupling nuts, zinc-plated coupling nuts, plain finish coupling nuts, or stainless steel coupling nuts, we have what you need in stock.

Frequently Asked Questions

A coupling nut is a hex-shaped fastener used to join two pieces of threaded rod end-to-end, extending their length or repairing a damaged section. Unlike a weld, it creates a removable, adjustable connection, making it ideal for strut systems, hanger rods, and structural applications requiring future disassembly.

A coupling nut is longer than a standard hex nut and is threaded all the way through so it can connect two separate rods or bolts. A standard hex nut is shorter and typically secures a single bolt or rod against a surface, not two pieces together.

Coupling nuts are most commonly made from carbon steel, 304 stainless steel, or 316 stainless steel. Available finishes include plain, hot-dipped galvanized, zinc plated, and yellow zinc plated. Brazos Fasteners stocks ASTM A563 and ASTM A194 grades in these materials and finishes for a range of industrial applications.

Coupling nuts typically range up to 1-1/2 inches in diameter, covering most standard threaded rod sizes used in construction, oil and gas, and manufacturing applications. Custom lengths and dimensions can be special ordered for projects requiring non-standard sizing.

Standard coupling nuts join two rods of the same diameter and thread pitch. To connect rods of different sizes, a reducing coupling nut is required, which has two different internal thread sizes on either end. These can typically be special ordered for specific project needs.
