Finished & Heavy Hex Jam Nuts
A jam nut is a type of lock nut about 1/2 to 2/3 the thickness of a regular hex nut. It tightens against a hex nut to create a clamping force to hold both nuts in place. Jam nut fasteners are practical for locking a hex nut when other factors prevent tightening it against the fastening surface. Because a jam nut has a thinner profile than a standard hex nut, you can also use a jam nut in applications where a standard nut cannot fit.
